Microsoft Copilot Studio is the no-code/low-code platform for building AI copilots within the Microsoft 365 ecosystem. It leverages Azure OpenAI and integrates natively with Teams, SharePoint, Dynamics 365, and Power Platform.

Strengths

Microsoft 365 depth: If your enterprise runs heavily on Teams, SharePoint, Outlook, and Dynamics, Copilot Studio has deep, well-maintained integrations that would take months to replicate elsewhere.
Low-code accessibility: Business users without engineering backgrounds can build basic copilots. Lowers the barrier for simple use cases significantly.
Enterprise infrastructure: Azure provides reliability, compliance certifications, and data residency options that large enterprises require.
Existing investment leverage: Microsoft 365 E3/E5 customers may find some capabilities included or discounted against their existing licence.

Limitations

Model lock-in: Copilot Studio runs exclusively on Azure OpenAI models. You cannot route to Anthropic, Google, or open-source models. As the competitive landscape evolves, this is a meaningful strategic constraint.
Ecosystem boundary: Designed for the Microsoft ecosystem. Deep integration with Jira, ServiceNow, Salesforce, custom databases, or non-Microsoft tools requires significant custom engineering.
No persistent causal memory: Conversations are largely session-based. No causal graph, no episodic memory, no bi-temporal reasoning. Agents start fresh on every session.
Governance ceiling: Azure AD and basic audit logging cover standard requirements but fall short of the cryptographically-provable audit trails that regulated industries increasingly require.
Limited multi-agent coordination: Primarily designed for single-agent copilot patterns, not for coordinating teams of specialised agents with dynamic task delegation.

Best suited for

Organisations already heavily invested in Microsoft 365 that need to add AI assistance to Microsoft-native workflows, and whose use cases fit within the Microsoft ecosystem boundary.

Salesforce Agentforce is the agentic AI layer built into the Salesforce Customer 360 platform. It enables AI agents to take actions within Salesforce — updating records, sending communications, triggering workflows — using Salesforce data as the intelligence layer.

Strengths

CRM depth: If your revenue operations run on Salesforce, Agentforce has unmatched context — customer history, pipeline data, service cases — natively available to agents without integration work.
Einstein AI integration: Salesforce's AI layer is mature and deeply integrated with the core CRM, providing predictive scoring, forecasting, and agentic capabilities within a unified data model.
Governed data model: Salesforce's object-level, field-level, and record-level security provides granular data governance that is well-understood by Salesforce admins.
Low-code agent building: Salesforce Flow and Agent Builder allow admins to build agents without significant coding, leveraging existing Salesforce expertise.

Limitations

Salesforce-only scope: Agents operate within Salesforce. For enterprises spanning ERP (SAP, Oracle), ticketing (Jira, ServiceNow), finance, HR, and data warehouses, Agentforce's scope is fundamentally limited.
No cross-system causal intelligence: Agentforce cannot reason across systems. It cannot tell you that a supply chain disruption caused a CSAT decline that is now driving churn risk. That cross-system causal chain is invisible to it.
Model dependency: Agentforce uses OpenAI models via Salesforce's infrastructure. You cannot route to other providers.
Cost at scale: Agentforce pricing adds significant cost on top of existing Salesforce licencing. Autonomous agent actions are typically metered per conversation or per action.
Memory boundary: Persistent memory is bounded by Salesforce Data Cloud. Causal memory across non-Salesforce systems is not available.

Best suited for

Organisations where the primary AI use case is revenue operations — sales automation, service deflection, customer success — that run primarily within Salesforce.

Limitations

Newer platform: TAO is newer than Copilot Studio or Agentforce. Ecosystem maturity — community, third-party integrations, implementation partners — is growing but not yet at the scale of Microsoft or Salesforce.
Engineering involvement for complex workflows: Building sophisticated multi-agent workflows requires engineering capability. The visual builder lowers the barrier, but complex use cases still need technical architects.
Not a CRM or ERP replacement: APEX orchestrates across your existing systems — it does not replace them. Organisations looking for an all-in-one business application should look elsewhere.
